Finally, the stars are coming out in Detroit. Skubal at No. 1 seems fairly obvious. Or is it? Wojo: Tarik Skubal tops Detroit’s growing list of sports stars; check out my top 10 detroitnews.com/story/sports/c… via The Detroit News

Verlander on Skubal: "When he pitches, they expect to win, and if you’re in a slump, he’s your f**king guy. ... It comes with added pressure. But what the hell, it’s why we play the game." "I just got goosebumps," said Skubal. One Cy Young to the next: audacy.com/971theticket/s…

Tigers and Lions on the same path with virtually the same odds. Who you got? (As much as you'd like to, you can't say both). Wojo: Tigers, Lions have championship ambitions, but who’s more likely to pull it off? detroitnews.com/story/sports/c… via The Detroit News

Am I the only one to notice Royale hurler Mr. Wacha has entered the 7th inning of competition without permitting a solitary Tiger stick-wielder to complete the trek to the first pillow safely after striking the ball?

One of Lions' best players retires early. Stunning, but understandable. Wojo: Frank Ragnow’s sudden retirement from Lions painful in many ways detroitnews.com/story/sports/c… via The Detroit News

Watching two riveting late-night showdowns, both tense and tied. Oilers and Panthers are 3-3 in OT. Tigers and White Sox are 4-4 in the 7th.

New MSU AD J Batt is a sharp guy with a nice track record. The Spartans need the boost, especially in football. Wojo: Looking for a rocket, Spartans hope new AD Batt can bring the fuel detroitnews.com/story/sports/c… via The Detroit News

Dan Campbell got emotional talking about center Frank Ragnow. He chafed at any suggestion the retirement was contract related: "That’s disrespectful. That’s not what this is about .... We knew he was contemplating it for a while." He said it's a big loss, but Lions have options.

Christian Mahogany said Frank Ragnow sent a personal text to each offensive linemen to share the news. "He just said, 'I’m gonna retire. I’m sorry I can’t keep going.'" "Frank is Frank, it’s hard to replicate that, but we have a standard in the O-line room ... We’ll be ready."

Now that Pistons are relevant, let’s be careful with revisionism on former GM Troy Weaver’s failed regime. Kings drafted Tyrese Haliburton at No. 12 in 2020. Pistons took Killian Hayes at No. 7. Kings later traded Haliburton to Pacers. So Pistons technically missed twice. Oof!
