My favorite part about race drivers is that I can text with Conor about the Pacers and have super normal convos, but then he can strap himself into a car and find it in himself to race like this. Ordinary humans doing extraordinary things.

Chicagoland’s history with NASCAR dates back to July of 1954, when the Grand National Series took on the famed Santa Fe Speedway. Dick Rathmann won a 200 lapper on the dirt half mile. Ive never seen any photos from this event, its lost in time.

In 1956 my Grandfather saw NASCAR inside Soldier Field, and now almost 70 years later I'm seeing NASCAR racing downtown, about a mile away.

With all due respect, speaking as a third generation Chicagoland racing fan, Steve Greenberg does not speak for all of us. Seriously disappointing that Chicago Sun-Times even ran this piece. Like it or love it the Chicago Street Race was a really cool achievement for NASCAR
