My Dad's retirement golf trip got underway today at a VERY misty Welshpool. Very much hit and hope stuff. The famous views were barely visible for 90% of it, but the conditioning was outstanding. Now for the North coast and some links golf!

North Wales Golf Club is an absolute delight. Features high on Today's Golfer's top 75 in Wales and best UK courses under £65 for a very good reason. Proper, excellent, railway-adjacent links golf that doesn't beat you up. Don't overlook it if you're playing neighbouring Conwy.

A treat walking round a near empty Porthmadog GC tonight in the perfect evening sun ahead of tomorrow morning's round. Salivating at what's to come!

Golf trips should be about the destination as much as the golf, and North Wales has not disappointed today: Aber Falls whiskey distillery, Llanfairpg, the National Slate Museum, Llanberis Pass (too wrapped up in the scenery to photograph!) and Portmeirion today. Brilliant stuff.

He's always worn one in the P Cup. He won't at Bethpage next year.

To say Porthmadog is a parkland 9 and links 9 isn't a fair assessment. A bit like P&K they're just very different. Somehow played the hardest holes by the coast better today. Banging breakfast. Lovely few frames of snooker. Super hospitality. On to Aberdovey!

Aberdovey, you have my heart. Darwin knew what he was talking about bigging this place up. One of my favourite ever rounds of golf. The perfect end to a fabulous trip.

It’s something we see more and more in golf these days. And I’m old-fashioned enough to not like it. At the end of a match the first thing you do is shake hands with your opponent. Show respect. Then jump around as much as you like 🤷‍♂️

Weird so many players are rested all day today, and so many are playing every session. Important to rotate players, keep them involved, and everyone's fresh for singles which is the most important session.

Match play is by far the most interesting television format for pro golf. It’s very sad there is only one exhibition event of match play per year in men’s pro golf.

The way Keegan was speaking about Furyk in his interview after winning his point, it makes me think he might be the 'elder' VC in the room alongside younger guys like Webb, Sneds and (IMO) Rickie... Think there's space for one; US has just filled VC roster with them historically!
