Nice to see a few late broods of Moorhen feeding around the lagoons at the moment, their young have clearly visible wing digits that can be seen when they are begging for food, very similar to the Hoatzin.

Wall Brown Butterfly's today having a warm embrace along the path to Ousefleet hide. Usually a very scarce species on the reserve but this year numbers particularly in the 2nd brood period are phenomenal both on site and around the local area. Humber Nature Partnership

Bitterns have been a little quiet the last couple of days but they have made up for it today. There's been lots of sightings around the reserve from reedling hide down to singleton. Marsh harriers, hobby, black-tailed godwits & green sandpiper around. #eastcoastwetlands

It won't be long before this whitethroat is heading back along the #eastcoastwetlands on its journey back to it's wintering grounds in western Africa. Spotted redshank, ruff, black-tailed godwits, avocet and green sandpiper still showing well today! #humber #nature

With most of the wheat and Barley fields now cut the yellow wagtails are now starting to build up to feed on the insects that are around our sheep. Mixed farming areas are really important for this declining migrant. Humber Nature Partnership #eastcoastwetlands

When the Greenshank are around its always a sign of wader passage. These two were showing nicely in front of Townend hide this morning frantically feeding up to help them refuel and continue their way down to Africa. Humber Nature Partnership #eastcoastwetlands

While the assemblage of passage waders continues, particularly on singleton lagoon it was great to see this yellow wagtail chasing insects earlier, although it was a little bit distant for my lens.#eastcoastwetlands #humber #nature

While working in the reedbed yesterday our Assistant Warden Dean thought he was going a little Cuckoo yesterday when he felt a bird land on his head, and indeed it turned out that he was! Humber Nature Partnership #eastcoastwetlands

Passage wader season is well and truly upon us at Blacktoft. 3 curlew sandpipers are feeding up on singleton lagoon on their long journey to western Africa after breeding in northern Siberia. Spotted redshank and lots of other waders showing too. Humber Nature Partnership #eastcoastwetlands
