Softwares are just tools. Just because you’ve mastered one (or more) it doesn’t make you an artist, it makes you technically strong. Being an artist isn’t defined by software proficiency (even if it can propel you farther!).

Thrown under the bus, used as a scapegoat, gaslit, taken advantage of etc. Mostly by weak people that felt threatened by me and didn’t share the same ethics as I do. But that’s ok, I’m now miles ahead of them all, both figuratively & literally while they rot in obscurity now 🖤

So I’ve been away for a while and active over on the other place, and all I can say now is that I’m happy to still see an active community here and I’ve missed you guys ☀️

Alright, I am wading into A Discourse again 🫠 There are some takes going around about art education rn, and while the threads ARE mostly full of tough love that is super valid, there are some bits and pieces that I gotta speak on because I think they lack critical nuance 🧵

In my 20 years I’ve worked on 6 generations of consoles, who knows how many different engines/proprietary software, several technical revolutions on top of new game trends & types. Despite what one might think re: my current pro situation, I’ve never ever felt on top of things.

Many vets start new studios. I myself was part of such an initiative a while ago. But being successful in making games in a big, oiled org is in no way a guarantee that you’ll be successful building a new studio & team. Too many people underestimate this, and fail.

Fair, yet there is an important nuance to note. It’s always going to be a rat race, and there are still plenty of people willing to take advantage of “passion”. Continued learning, being open minded and adaptable is important. And so is rest and taking care of oneself 👍

I would prefer ignoring the truth and forgetting about this right now and forever 😭
