Let me introduce you to Ugaaso, a platform for trailblazing women leaders in the Somali Region of Ethiopia who are transforming the political culture in the region not just to include more women in decision making, but to make sure they are heard.

If you lived in Syria, you would know this is such an incredible moment. Try to think of Syrians as human beings, instead of geopolitics, just for a second. Imagine how people are feeling as their disappeared loved ones are being found in prisons, alive.

From Bagram, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, Sde Teiman to Saydnaya - to suck out the poison of empire and colonialism we must begin with where its violence has almost been totalising & therefore remain festering: the torture sites.

The women are incredulous, asking questions in disbelief. Just go, just go, get your things and go, the man freeing them keeps repeating. He sees a toddler and exclaims “haram!” - meaning, this is a tragic evil. What a scene ya Allah

colonialist and Islamic/obscurantist futures ahead. I even heard someone shamelessly say 'now Israel will have a free hand to do what it wants' as if their non-stop savage murdering of Palestinians for the last year is anything but that. * 'terra nullis anti-colonialists': While

In 1976 Stuart Hall interviewed CLR James for the BBC. The tape, made by Mike Dibb, was sadly wiped unaired. This is the full transcript of their conversation, with intro by me, a glorious illustration by Molly Crabapple🇵🇷, and 🔥 editing by Max Nelson nybooks.com/online/2024/12…

By murdering teachers, professors, and academics, and demolishing schools, universities, and cultural landmarks, Israel has effectively stripped Gaza's students of their education, erasing both their past and future as part of a broader genocidal strategy.

Recently spoke on @bbc’s Africa Daily podcast alongside Gaari Ismaaciil. Our discussion focused on the historical context of armed conflict in SRS, the 2018 Ethio-ONLF peace agreement, challenges associated with its implementation, and related themes. bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0k…

#OTD in 1965, #MalcolmX was assassinated. In 1976, the Somali poet Gaarriye penned a poem that served as a scathing critique of global political corruption. Titled “Watergate,” it drew parallels to the infamous scandal of the Nixon era, citing the unspoken imperial oppression. 👇🏾

Let's be clear on the facts. You *can* now be deported from some Western liberal democracies for taking a view--even a private view in a text message-- on which side of a conflict you are on. Not acting, not providing material support, not participating: for taking a view.

Surely, this blatant and unfounded accusation against Abdikarim Sheikh Muse, disguised as concern for the integrity of the ONLF, masks deeper, more complex interests in the contemporary politics of the Somali Region. Time will tell!

starvation is an easier thing to condemn because it lends itself easily to obfuscation about Israel being the cause of Palestinian death. It's like the atrocity version of the passive voice headlines. Where were these people in 2 years of sniping babies and incinerating families
