Some photos of arguably the most bizarre ant ever: the queen of Dorylus army ants (here Dorylus molestus from Kenya). The first picture shows one of her small worker daughters on top of her head for size comparison. Hard to believe these two are females of the same species!

Army ant colonies are nomadic and frequently relocate their nest. Here are two photos of a Dorylus molestus emigration column at Mount Kenya. 🇰🇪 The ants are carrying their eggs, larvae and pupae - can’t move house without bringing the kids along.
