Birding Lothian Dotterel in same location from 0800 this morning feeding and moving on slope to South West of path below Carnethy summit

Dotterel still on the summit of Carnethy Hill earlier this morning (20th May) despite first being reported on the 13th Birding Lothian

A really nice trip to Musselburgh yesterday evening. Highlights being the pair of Avocets found earlier in the day on the old scrapes and finding a pair of Temminck’s Stints (new birds?) on the new lagoons (shown in video). Birding Lothian

A few more pics of the White-winged Scoter at Musselburgh this morning. There has to be a good chance it will hang around for the next few months while it undergoes its moult. Birding Lothian

The White-winged Scoter doing the business again off the Musselburgh seawall this morning. It's not often when scoter watching that your scope is redundant! Birding Lothian

White-winged scoter my 9th lifer of the year ✔️high tide seems to be the best unfortunately I got there as tide was going out 🤦‍♀️had to wait until the tide started to rise again. Birding Lothian BirdGuides RareBirdAlertUK MarcM381 #UKbirding

Not my bag but for those who like to know about confirmed breeding of exotic ducks in Lothian, I thought I'd take this poor record shot of a female Mandarin with 3 juvs before they swam under overhanging trees on the Tyne, w of Tyninghame on 20 June Birding Lothian

I don’t know what’s in the Musselburgh water this year that’s making the scoter show so well, or what’s caused the apparent change in White-winged Scoter status, but both are welcome. The new WWS found y’day still present this am as well as the drake Surf Birding Lothian

I dread to think how many pictures I’ve taken of the various White-winged Scoter in Lothian this year, but the total has increased again this am with another close swim past at Musselburgh. It looks like it should be a 2cy but has a wholly dark belly? Birding Lothian

Sunny pre-work visits to the Musselburgh scrapes = rubbish light, but nice to find this ad White-rumped Sandpiper this morning. Birding Lothian

The American Black Tern (complete with its green ring) was back at Tyninghame today having been absent y’day. It flew out to sea at 14:15 and hadn’t returned by 17:00 (also 4+ Roseate Terns). WWS and Surf Scoter still at Musselburgh this am Birding Lothian

After some perseverance, had great success with the Musselburgh scoter flocks. Managed to located the White-winged Scoter and the stonking Drake Surf Scoter in amongst all of the Velvets. Stunning birds, just need one to swing by Starr Gate next! Birding Lothian
