While the juvenile Oystercatcher (with dark tip of the bill) continued foraging without any worry, its parent ran away fast when it heard the alarm calls at Plumb Beach. No wonder that 90% of shorebird chicks don't survive to adulthood. Video by Gus Keri.

Although the bill doesn't look too long, this bird is showing a lot of rusty color on the wings and the head and it has a drooping bill which suggest it is a Western Sandpiper, seen at the east pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge today. Video by Gus Keri.

This poor White-rumped Sandpiper has some kind of leg injury, but it does not stop it from flying away. At the east pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife refuge today. Video by Gus Keri.
