THAT’S A WRAP! Thanks to everyone who has helped make today’s event a success. Bouquets to our event partners mRNA Victoria and State Government of Victoria, our speakers, event attendees, AV crew, volunteers and the BioMelbourne Network team. Until next time, happy networking #mRNASeries
Jodie says we don't have a social licence to do lockdowns in the future. We need to continue to invest in public health and collaboration. Prof Brendan Crabb saying that the huge investment in therapeutics Doherty Institute will make a difference #mRNASeries
A question about increasing the speed of our response to a pandemic. Jacqueline says it depends on how much info we have about a pathogen; our mRNA platform has been given to millions of people so now there is more comfort with mRNA vaccines for people and regulators #mRNASeries
A question about significant under-reported deaths in India which affects modelling effectiveness. Jodie says that models can't replace data but they can infer severity of disease burden and help with disease making #mRNASeries
Prof Brendan Crabb AC Prof Brendan Crabb, Director and CEO Burnet Institute is now facilitating the panel discussion and Q&A #mRNASeries
Would you believe it, we have a test fire alert alarm in the theatre! Over now thank goodness
#mRNASeries
We also need to consider the uneven impacts of decision making, including lockdowns, not just treatments, on effected populations globally to reduce inequities. We also need effective communication to achieve equity goals #mRNASeries
Jodie says that it's critical to model epidemics, bringing together social and biological, surveillance and past data to plan and respond to future infectious disease outbreaks and support public health policy #mRNASeries
Our third speaker is Prof Jodie McVernon, Director of Doherty Epidemiology Doherty Institute. She will discuss preparing for the known unknown: better data for better decisions #mRNASeries
Jacqueline says that we need to collaborate to get to a better state of pandemic preparedness. We also need new partnership models to enable vaccine manufacturers to produce multiple products for Disease X #mRNASeries
Moderna & global public-private partners are creating a library of virus families against pathogens such as COVID-19, Zika, Mers, Chikungunya, HIV and Nipa, pandemic flu and Mpox, so they can quickly develop an mRNA-based vaccine for disease X & manufacture regionally #mRNASeries
Moderna designed the mRNA platform to create new meds, including their first COVID-19 vaccine in 2021 in less than 1 year and updated, approved COVID vaccines to new variants in 2022 and 2023 in 63 and 87 days, respectively, showing it can rapidly respond to pandemics #mRNASeries
Welcome to our facilitator and first speaker today, Prof Brendan Crabb AC Prof Brendan Crabb, Director and CEO
Burnet Institute, who is introducing the concepts of disease X, detection and prevention. The Burnet Institute played a major role during the COVID-19 pandemic #mRNASeries
We have 3 terrific speakers, a facilitated panel discussion and we’re live X-ing with the hashtag #mRNASeries . Join the conversation.
Welcome to the 2024 mRNA Lecture Series event: Preparing for Disease X, delivered in partnership with mRNA Victoria and the State Government of Victoria biomelbourne.org/event/mrna-lec… #mRNASeries
Discuss sovereign manufacturing, innovation trends, opportunities, partnerships and what success looks like for start-ups engaging in this space.
