During the 1920s, Joseph Erlanger, born #onthisday in 1874, and his student Herbert Gasser studied the properties and distribution of nerve fibres. They showed that thicker fibres convey nerve impulses faster and were awarded the Medicine Prize in 1944 for their work.

Key point: in a system like Ontario, where fees make up over 50% of total operating income, a 10% cut in tuition hurts institutions more than a 10% cut in operating grants.

Significant number of lefties giving me thumbs up for pointing out Ford govt. tuition cut wouldn't help poor because of interactions with student aid. I rarely get that reaction from them when I make similar points re: NDP tuition reduction plans, even though effects the same.

My paper with @paulgribble & Andrew Pruszynski is now officially published in Nature Neuroscience! (go.nature.com/2TIYlzJ) In it we show that spinal stretch reflexes can help maintain the hand’s position in the external world. Why is this a big deal and how did we show this? I'll tell you(1/16)

UBC ‘sports related fields’ (that’s Kinesiology/Human Kinetics) ranked 3rd in the world. Not bad for a little Okanagan startup (and our Vancouver cousins). topuniversities.com/university-ran…
