Had to revise one of my syllabi--a class on apocalypse--so I added Agustina Bazterrica💚🏳️‍🌈's searing novel, Tender Is the Flesh! Speculations on the 'end' don't get more catastrophic than this! Students were riveted last time & I also wrote an article on it, too: hollywoodprogressive.com/literature/ten…

I think Stephen Graham Jones will agree that while slashers, monsters, zombies, ghosts and space aliens can be scary, for real horror, there's nothing more terrifying than those olden days when people had to work down in the mines without helmets or proper air-filtering devices . . .

My first book (2012) was on the captivity narrative of Mary Rowlandson, a fraught & elusive figure of early American empire. Stephen Graham Jones, of course, has a note on her in The Bird Is Gone, which I cited. The Univ Nebraska Press gave me a chance to return to the topic. I couldn't resist..

Ahhh, who doesn't need a nice, relaxing get-a-way to a place where the problems and noise of the world just fades away. Where we don't feel like worker ants stuck in the constant grind...

Went to a pre-screening of James Watkins' #SpeakNoEvil last night! I expected McAvoy to put on a good show in a story that has been done before. This take, though, departed the beaten path early, building into a creepy, anxiety and terror inducing crescendo by story's end! Bravo!

Super cool to get this galley copy of Danielewski's creepy book-maze #HouseofLeaves, which Paul Tremblay put on his NewYorkTimes Top 10 list of best books of the 21st century. In some great company with Stephen Graham Jones's #TheOnlyGoodIndians, McCarthy's #NoCountryForOldMen & Ishiguro's #NeverLetMeGo!
