These ancient Thomas Beecham recordings may lack in sound quality, but they make up for it in their time capsule authenticity. Beecham was THE Frederick Delius champion. Yes, I have cd versions, but at the moment I'm listening to digital files, hence the picture.

Casual Frank Zappa fans who ignore his later works, especially synclavier stuff, are doing themselves a disservice. The 60s/70s material is great, but he didn't suddenly become a lesser artist after Joe's Garage. This is a top five Zappa album for me. The cd package is quality.

Duke Ellington - Blues In Orbit. I dismissed this for years as a casual, lesser work. I was wrong. Top ten Ellington album. The casual nature is part of the charm. Relaxed mastery. Kind of Blue got nothing on this. Yeah, I said that. Duke over Miles all day every day.

Miles Davis was my infatuation gateway to jazz. Duke Ellington actually made me fall in love and stick around. Duke>Miles always.

I was annoyed with Stanley Crouch and Wynton Marsalis for their conservative views when I first watched Ken Burn's Jazz. In hindsight, I think they were mostly right. Duke and Louis are the key figures in jazz. What Miles and company did post 60s was something else entirely.

I really miss message boards. It didn't matter if you had a blue check. Your overall popularity didn't matter. Post a topic and everyone on the board saw it and could engage with it. The music discussions on Twitter are shallow and highly limited, in comparison.

The very realistic idea that I am going to die before I can ever retire is actually pretty emotionally crushing. My boomer mom hasn't been employed in over three decades. Times have changed. We need to change as well.

Sergei Prokofiev created a controversial banger with his 2nd symphony. Two movements, the 2nd twice as long as the 1st. 1st movement is aggressive throughout. Second a mix of aggression and gentler melodic sections. Many hate it. I think it is brilliant. Sergei before censors.

Sergei Prokofiev Symphony 3 used material from his controversial opera, The Fiery Angel. Both are awesome, especially considering their era. The 2nd and 3rd syms are superior, artistically, to the more popular,but traditional sym 1. There's a reason Billy Joel sang his name. 😉

Listening to Violin Concerto no. 1 by Sergei Prokofiev. I quickly notice similarities to Heart of Ice by Joe Jackson, my favorite artist. He is my favorite for a reason. I often love his many influences, like Duke Ellington, Beatles, Steely Dan, Louis Jordan, etc.

How come my 57 Year old vegan self is only getting stronger towards the end of my overnight, very physical shifts, while twenty-something non-vegan coworkers are looking exhausted? I drink beer and eat chips to excess, but I still outrun these kids. Coincidence?
