Here is the first paper, which shows that variants in only 13 influenza susceptibility candidate genes that govern TLR3- and IRF7-dependent production of type I IFNs account for at least 3.5% of critical cases of #COVID19 science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… Science Magazine

Here is the other paper, which shows that neutralizing auto-Abs to type I IFNs account for at least 10% of critical cases of #COVID19, even in a greater proportion in men: an auto-immune phenocopy of the corresponding inborn errors science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… Science Magazine

Big jumps in science of Type 1 Interferon response to #COVID19 today Science Magazine: auto-antibodies, genomic variants, together account for ~14% of critical/life-threatening covid patients science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… sciencemag.org/news/2020/09/h… Meredith Wadman

Congrats to Dr. Charles Rice of Rockefeller University on winning the #NobelPrize in Medicine! Dr. Rice is a co-chair of NY's independent Clinical Advisory Task Force that will advise the state on future COVID vaccines. We're lucky to have his advice and expertise.

It's our differences in the interferon pathway, our 1st line innate immunity defense, that help explain why we respond so differently to #SARSCoV2. My lab is recruiting! If you are a motivated researcher looking for a PhD or PostDoc position, interested in working on ADA2 deficiency and related PIDs in a European Research Council (ERC) / @fwo funded project, at KU Leuven, find more info here: gbiomed.kuleuven.be/english/resear…
