📊 There is a big problem with how we measure health. We still measure health like we’re in the 20th century. It's World Mental Health Day 2025. Let’s start counting like we live in 2025.

2 wks ago, a journal rejected my submission. Yesterday, they sent me a 2nd rejection. Same manuscript. Should I write back: "I'm sorry to make you feel regret twice." Also, when it's finally published elsewhere and I humblebrag, do I get to count this as two rejections? 😂

My prediction/worry: - poorer patients will rely on low quality bots - middle-income will get therapists + higher quality bots (better guardrails, expand on what the therapist does) - highest income will use no-insurance, no-AI therapists for privacy

A new meta analysis of millions of online posters finds that moral-emotional language is perhaps the number 1 rocket-booster for traffic. Most ppl who spend time building an audience by posting online about politics (or anything) come to the same realization: high dudgeon

Granta magazine's latest issue, 173, is out today, and free to read for the next four days. It is on Modi's India. I contributed an essay on the word 'Nepali' for a symposium on thirteen Indian (and in this case also Nepali and Bhutanese) languages: granta.com/nepali/

The conversation we really need to have about SNAP and EBT is that these are functionally corporate subsidies. You don't pay your workers a living wage, and the state makes up the shortfall.

Honestly amazing how every illegal immigrant is simultaneously a destitute ward of the state AND fully approved for 30 year mortgages and soaking up all the quarter million dollar housing stock.

📍Senator Fetterman had a VFIB—the leading cause of cardiac arrest—he almost died if not for his implanted defibrillator, which can cost $34,000 to over $51,000. Days ago, he also just voted with GOP to gut health insurance tax credits for millions. Hope he has change of heart.
