It’s been a busy time for winter projects at OBI Sports, including a quality control assessment at Laugardalsvöllur, Iceland’s national stadium. With the challenging winter weather, regular checks have helped ensure the project progresses at the highest quality.

First pass on a green with the targeted sprayer. Spot treating Poa with methiozolin. This is a green that wasn’t covered but we also have two reps of this study on a green just uncovered this past weekend—it’s still pretty green and a lot more Poa. Amy Wilber Shawn Askew, Ph.D.

Wade Thomas, Super at Idle Hour Club, Macon, Georgia sent me this picture today of his nursery. On the left is the bentgrass variety Crenshaw and on the right is 007XL bentgrass. The Crenshaw has cold weather purple color while the 007XL has none. Crenshaw is badly segregated.

Everyone is making autonmous mowers, but what about rollers? I would love to send a sellf driving roller out at 04:00 in the morning to knock off dew. And then when I'm chasing mowers, the setup guy takes it along and lets it roll while he changes holes and moves markers #GIS

Excited to share our latest study of the fungicide impacts on microbiome suppression of dollar spot in turf. My takeaway is you need design a precise and articulated fungicide program to take advantage of the power of microbiome. Paul Koch #microbiome #turf journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/ae…

Researchers evaluated several grass species, varieties, and seed blends for their ability to tolerate the stresses of long, cold winters in northern latitudes. No pesticides were applied and significant differences were observed 👇

Another one of our turf microbiome papers is hot off the press! Lots of interesting info as we continue to gain microbiome knowledge, with important implications for future turfgrass management. It's free so give it a look! Fernanda Proaño-Cuenca Ming-Yi Chou doi.org/10.1016/j.scit…

Golf needs more 7000+ yard courses! Just kidding. I just looked at a sample of nearly 1 million rounds from 2024. I only looked at rounds played on courses with a par of 69 or higher (to remove par 3 courses, short courses, etc...) ▶️1.4% of rounds were played from 7000+

Been an unbelievably mild March. First cut today. 19th of April last year for comparison. Looks like we will start a bit sooner than normal

Food for thought: if these Trump tariffs are here to stay, will they be the death of 5+ gang mowers in golf? They are made of many parts that cross tariff lines and are already very expensive. Smaller auto mowers have very few parts and are getting cheaper fast. 🤔

After 7 years of R&D, the turf sensor research we've been pursuing is finalizing coming to GreenKeeper. Measure turf density, N status, and pest and drought stress in GK CIS. Create prescription fertilizer maps, adjust irrigation runtimes, redirect carts, spot treat pests, etc.

The one thing every AD/GM/manager/coach needs to fully understand is that injury prevention begins in the weight room and ends on the field. Investing in your field and field managers the way you do weight rooms and strength coaches pays ten fold in the success of a team

This is why we lean on fescues here in Iceland. The left double rows are creeping bents still completely dormant. Then a row of fescue/bent mixes or pure fescue, a border of chewing fescue and then colonial bent that's still dormant. Which would you go for if you open tomorrow?

We had a week of great weather by Icelandic standards. Broke 20°C, and saw 24hrs mean temps higher than 16°C!! Shocking stuff. That resulted in 4,340 rounds of golf played over our two courses, or 620 rounds per day. Icelanders love golf and double digits on the Celsius scale
