No film Thur 17 Oct eve. Next one on 24 Oct is 'American Fiction' (15). A 5-Oscar-nominated film that chimes with this year's Black History Month theme 'reclaiming the narrative'. It's a clever satire about a black writer whose books are deemed not 'black enough'.

Thurs Film, 31 Oct, is 'Potraits of Dangerous Women'. This is a quintessential British feelgood film in which effervescent characters bring an anarchic zest for life to a script bursting with sharp humour. Tara Fitzgerald stars, with outstanding support from top British actors.

No 'Cinema in the Hall' in St. George's Hall tonight, 7th November, as the projector is being upgraded. Back next Thursday with 'Firebrand'.

Thursday's film on 21st Nov is 'Reawakening' (15). A 'searingly emotional' family drama in which Juliet Stevenson excels as the mother who still clings to the hope that her daughter, who was 14 years old when she disappeared, will return even ten years later.

Thur film, 28 Nov is 'Thelma'. Based on the writer's grandmother’s real life experience. Thelma (93) is duped by a phone scammer and sets out, riding a mobility scooter across the city, on a treacherous quest to reclaim what was taken from her. "Exciting, laugh out loud funny".

Thur film on 5 Dec is 'Fly Me To the Moon' (12A). Stars Scarlett Johansson & Tatum Channing. It's a simple romantic comedy and an alternative-history of the 1969 manned moon mission. Some of us wondered at the time whether it really happened. Could a moon landing be faked?

The next 'Music in the Hall' is on Sat 14 Dec with the return of firm favourite 'Sunjay', touring his new album 'I'm Just Like You'. It was recorded in homage to Chris Smither to coincide with his 80th Birthday. Doors 7pm.

Thur 12 Dec is: 'Joker: Folie a Deux' (15). Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of The Joker is as mesmerising as it was in the original and there is the expected anarchy & mayhem. Lady Gaga adds a musical dimension and the stars sing us through the Great American Songbook.

Next Thur film, 19 Dec is 'Touch' (15). A romantic & thrilling story that spans several decades & continents following one man's emotional journey to find his first love who disappeared 50 yrs ago. At 71, and following a devastating diagnosis, he knows his time is running out.
