Overlooked reason for the literacy crisis is that media has stopped pushing reading entirely. As recently as the 1990s books were at the center of culture. As kids it was drilled into us that to be successful, you had to read. We need a national campaign to make kids read again.

As far as music goes, the Black church (especially in the 80s-00s) really prepares you for anything. Everything is easy compared to gospel music

As a Black person, you have the rest of your life to be a minority in just about every space you’re in. Why not spend 4 years experiencing what it’s like to be the majority in your space. Mentally, it builds your confidence up and apparently it benefits your health too. 🤷🏾‍♂️
