Just checked primary keywords that lead people to my blog (Tetrapod Zoology) -- and a bit surprised that 'Montauk Monster' is still up there in the top 5. I republished 'What Was the Montauk Monster? A Look Back to 2008' in 2021 ... tetzoo.com/blog/2021/10/2…

A strange walrus-like animal seen on a map of South America around 1600. The only problem- there are no known species of walrus south of the Equator. Other explorers like James Hector and Francois Leguat either heard reports of, or saw, walrus like animals in the Southern Ocean

Are there any scary cases of cryptid lost media? Maybe the Oklahome Casino bigfoot footage, that's something I wouldn't want to see taking out the trash late at night.

Angraecum longicalcar, a species of flower from Madagascar notable for having a massive spur to get to its nectar. No known species of moth has a probiscis long enough to pollinate the flower

I keep considering a book on Lovecraft's circle and its intersection with cryptozoology, as a palate cleanser project. The damn thing keeps wanting to cross into Forteana, which would require actual research.

One of the unknown animals of Greenland described in Fabricius' Fauna Groenlandica (1780, p. 26) is a giant hare. According to the descriptions he received, it was the size of a bull reindeer, with a harelip, long ears, a short tail, and a white coat with a dark dorsal stripe.

In 1866 there was a report of a blue bird so light it could rest on the tip of a blade of grass. The report came from Jesus' home region of Galilee. Karl Shuker thought it may have been a Palestinian sunbird or perhaps a moth, but the lightweight description perplexed scientists
