I wrote for CAPX about some focus groups we ran with British Indian voters last week. They were part of Public First's ongoing ‘New Citizens’ project, looking at the political attitudes of newly eligible voters: capx.co/how-popular-is…

⭐️Half of the public⭐️ including ⭐️a quarter of 2019 Con voters⭐️ think the Tories deserve to lose EVERY seat they hold. I don't think I've ever seen this level of betrayal in the British electorate.

A little under two weeks before polling day, me and a crack team of PF researchers headed to Newark to find out what was *really* going on on the ground in the 2024 general election. 1/

Feeling jaded by week after week of opinion polls? You'll love this research by Bertie Wnek and Ed Shackle of Public First, who spent 5 days in pubs in Bolton, observing locals to get insights about what makes them tick that they'd never get over the phone 1/5

Our poor team put in the hard yards sitting in pubs for several days, and I'm grateful for their efforts. (Seriously, this report is such a joy, - a wonderful recreation of the (famous?) 1930s mass observation study. Do read it) thepubandthepeople.publicfirst.co.uk

I know quite a bit about the original project. One interesting bit that comes to mind is that they discovered lots of support for Edward VIII despite widespread media criticism re his abdication. People were generally much more forgiving & understanding than expected.

Amazing research from my colleagues Ed Shackle and Bertie Wnek, who sat in pubs in Bolton for five straight days, looking, listening and talking. It may sound like *the dream*, but actually it's one of the most interesting qual research the PF team has ever undertaken.

Last year I was commissioned by the UK ministry of housing to write a report on the demand side-drivers of the housing affordability crisis. After some election-related delays, here it is. (1/13) ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/publi…

Just 3 months in but swing voters are becoming increasingly frustrated with this Government I sat down with voters in Sittingbourne & Sheppey to understand the scale of the challenge Labour has if it's to reverse the sense of doom and gloom (1/8) newstatesman.com/the-weekend-re…

I ran the immersive research in Guildford for this project. Midway through the election campaign I was struck by how many lifelong Tories had already tuned out. On the NHS, the economy and immigration the party had no credibility left - the campaign was just noise to them.

Public First’s Port Talbot research written up in The Times and The Sunday Times. Ed Shackle and I spent 6 days in the town speaking to locals about how the closure of the last blast furnace was affecting the community. Great trip! thetimes.com/article/55ac2b…

Great to publish this piece by Bertie Wnek in this week's Green Transition which explores his on-the-beat research into local pylon opposition. As it turns out, there are far fewer Nimbys out there than is often presented... The New Statesman newstatesman.com/spotlight/sust…

I wrote this piece for the The New Statesman on local opposition to energy infrastructure, and whether or not it's misrepresented. newstatesman.com/spotlight/sust…

Wrote in Politico today about what will happen next. There’s a risk of massively over complicating something very simple to diagnose and very hard to fix. politico.eu/article/shock-…

This is a great paper, esp. on econ reg - but demand management is not the same as demand reduction and it's not right to say it embeds stagnation. That millions of tonnes of drinking quality water will be cooling data centres in drought areas in Cambridge is not good for growth.

In December we spent a week in Port Talbot speaking to locals about the blast furnace closure and its impact on the town. If you're interested in the Gov't's industrial strategy it's worth hearing from those closest to industry. The report is out today: public-first.shorthandstories.com/port-talbot/
