We had a stand at the Passion For Ocean festival today, with bycatch of some fjord shark species, the salmon lifecycle boardgame made by Cecilie Iden Nilsen and shark memory game made by Lotte Dahlmo! Lots of people showed interested🦈🐟 NORCE

As a part of the #NFR_LOST project, we’re repeating a historic longline survey conducted in the Osterfjord fjord system to see how the bentic fish community has changed over time. One of the species caught was the spiny dogfish, the primary species being tracked in this project!

Today’s the UN World Environment Day. Our LFI lab at NORCE works a lot with restoration of fish habitats, and with telemetry we can help conserve and protect valuable species and habitats for healthy environments - also in the future🌱🌊🪸

Read about the exciting BOATS project by Bergen Telemetry Network at LFI_Bergen NORCE, which tracks marine species in the Bergen urban area before, during, and after a restoration project in our latest news article! 🐟🦞 thelmabiotel.com/tracking-marin…

This summer, our BTN members have done fieldwork for #NFR_RePRESS project: setting up radio antennas & tagging wild Atlantic salmon adults in western Norway! PhD candidate Erlend M.Hanssen & MSc student Markus study the effects of otter predation on the salmon population🐟🦦

My second PhD paper is out! 🎓📝Does interrupting smolts during migration harm them? Our latest research investigates the impact of capturing smolts using traps 🐟Check out the full study here: doi.org/10.1002/rra.43…

Last summer, Morgan Piczak visited us in Norway that included working on the #BOATS project, entailing tracking different species like cod & European lobster in relation to seabed restoration. Curious about telemetry & restoration efficacy? Read more here: link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Another thornback ray tagged and we are up to 19 tagged over the last two weeks. Lots of rain these past days but soon back again fishing for more!

Phd candidates Saron Berhe & Lotte Dahlmo are guest lecturers this week for bachelor students at Svalbard, with telemetry as subject. If weather allows for it, they will go out and hopefully capture and tag Atlantic cod the next few days 🐟 #NFR_NICE

Saron and Lotte tagged 21 Atlantic cod last week in Svalbard! Now we just have to wait some months before we have more data on cod up in the high Arctic

October 30th is the International ghost shark day! The BTN team hope to add chimaera monstrosa to our research in the near future to gain insight into their behaviour & movement! (This one was caught while repeating a scientific longline survey done in the 80s & 90s)

Atlantic salmon at 78 degrees North - spectacular! We are tracking salmon, Arctic charr and pink salmon in the high North through the #NFR_NICE project. bergentelemetry.com/post/update-fr…
