The City of Greer, SC downtown municipal park is closed for 4 hours on the first beautiful Saturday of fall for a private event, limiting access to a few privileged kids. We had to pull our 4-year-old off the slide. How is this good policy? #HereInGreer

Just received a recruitment email from a graduate program to share with graduating seniors. Email ends with confidentiality notice explicitly prohibiting dissemination of the email.

Do you have experience setting up or running an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at a smaller campus? If so, we could use some help! Feedback about feasibility at small school, pitfalls to avoid, success stories? #BiologyTwitter

For all my folx coming from underrepresented backgrounds & are interested in grad school programs, the UMich Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Frontiers program is open for apps! You will be fully funded w/ a stipend, & this is great if you are unsure about a PhD & would like to get more fieldwork experience.

Its daunting to think about our 4K child learning to read; it's dismaying to think about doing this with an ineffectual curriculum based on approaches refuted by cognitive science. I hope our district has adopted #ScienceOfReading & abandoned three-cuing & related curricula.

I think I've figured out a way to gently correct use of wrong titles in emails: "Thanks – this looks helpful! Please let me know how you would prefer to be addressed – ..., Ms. ...., etc. -Ben"

I’m less worried now about whether previously remote-learning biology students will be able to follow protocols during in-person labs.

Long intertwining Twitter threads made it challenging to follow the controversy related to Wilson's death regarding opinion pieces about his legacy & allegations of racism. @YBYoder provides a helpful explanation & interpretation here.

This article may help us contexualize Wilson's legacy and lasting influence on scientific racism. Stacy Farina spent months scrutinizing the Library of Congress archive that contains Wilson's correspondences with white supremacists. @mclemoremr Scientific American magazine.scienceforthepeople.org/online/the-las…

Is it me, or is mashing Celebrate-Your-Culture Day together with Wacky Wednesday as cringeworthy as it sounds? (context - our kid’s 4K clothing instructions)

Use spongy moth for the invasive pest formerly known as gypsy moth, a change approved by the Entomological Society of America in 2022. Gypsy moth is acceptable in a first reference explaining the new name until it becomes better known: spongy moths, formerly known as gypsy moths.

I’d love to see lesson plan for this list of supplies sent home with K5er. Learning Objective: Student will understand alternatives to fruit consumption. SLO-1: trans-fats are delicious apple alternative SLO-2: identify fruit-flavored candy as healthier alternative to other candy
