“…we should encourage our learners to lean into the richness of the various religious moral and faith commitments that are already manifest in them…” Moral formation and virtue development are professional development. Great read. thepublicdiscourse.com/2024/02/92580/

This Easter, remembering the pause between death and resurrection is a good reminder that we remain in the already but not yet. The suffering I see and seek to provide compassion to each day is a reminder of the pause while the world awaits resurrection. christianitytoday.com/ct/2020/april/…

mayoclinicproceedings.org/article/S0025-… Since reading this article last week, I have been paying more attention to my words. Doctors at their core must compassionate communicators to carry out healing work. We must consider the weight our words carry and the connotations we are communicating.

the patient didn’t “fail” their round of chemo, but rather our treatment failed them it’s not the “addict” who “suffered a relapse” but a person living with addiction who experienced a relapse we aren’t “withdrawing care” at end of life (there is always care to be provided)

This is a huge problem for the oncology community to address scientifically with novel prevention and new therapeutic techniques. However, the emotional, social, and spiritual distress caused by cancer in young adults requires rethinking our care models.

There is so much blame in cancer, especially from a person's own circle. This week, I told a new patient their cancer was NOT their fault & they started crying because wow that weight was heavy. In cancer care: less shame and blame. More support, right?

Appreciate a voice sharing this perspective. We would do well do remove some metaphors from our lexicon when addressing cancer and particularly sarcoma. War metaphors amplify a mechanistic view of cancer care and steal from the human story that is unfolding.

This is a major story from #ASCO25. Randomized phase 3 trial of time of day of immunotherapy infusion. Randomized to infusion before or after 3pm. Early infusion far superior: PFS 11.3 vs 5.7 HR 0.42, OS HR 0.45! Impactful, pragmatic, not costly. This should be a bigger story.
