Lindy Khupe, 17, only moved to Southport 12 months ago from Botswana with her parents but has managed to pass her exams with flying colours. She said: “It has been hard, it was difficult to come in and do my GCSEs. I’m hoping to go to KGV next year.”

Rafael Da Silva, 16, managed to bag himself three 9s, four 8s a 7 and a 5, with the 5 in Spanish being the most notable after getting a U in his final mock before sitting his exams. “The teachers helped a lot, it was hard work but I’m really happy.”

Violet Ward-Fitzgerald is off to Runshaw after smashing her GCSEs. She’s going to study engineering, Spanish and film studies with the hope of building film sets in Spain when she’s older. “I just want to bring them all together. My family love to travel.”

Nathaniel Balangit, 16, moved to Southport for the second time in year 7 and has since gone onto become head boy as well as passing his GCSEs. “I moved here in year 7 and it was a real struggle. The transition between curriculums was really tough because they’re so different.”

One neighbour said she heard two “metallic bangs” before she heard a car speed off. “I just heard two bangs, I thought they were fireworks at first but they were quite metallic bangs. Then I heard a car speed off.”

Forensic officers are currently working on a house within the cordon with a white car on the drive. No injuries have been reported with police explaining a shotgun was reportedly used in the incident.
