Another day, another book to read on holiday here in Abu Dhabi. Finally getting round to reading Ben Bartlett great book; Constraining Football. Love the way he easily applies constraints to deliver desired outcomes from his sessions.

For #SundayShare, a great podcast. I love his idea of where development happens & the ideas Ben shares. My experience is there is too much talk of absolute rules where most things are nuanced. Too simple to dismiss results but equally too simple to say they are all that matters

Nice to hear Ben Bartlett on where football is heading.
I think the main tension is between 2 different readings of ‘structure’.
Is structure a predesigned template which is replicated by players (325)?
Or is structure an emergent aspect of unstable dynamics (turbulence in water)?

Fewer coaching books have caused me to think more about session design, information provided (or not provided) and relationship with players. An absolute must read.

Even better second time around Ben Bartlett

“This book is about learning.”

Finally got the second of Ben Bartlett books; look forward to reading and re-reading it as much as the first one.

I believe coaching should always be about the players - so I couldn’t recommend Ben’s ideas any more strongly.

'but of course it includes movements too' isn't going to solve this.

I would move to conceptualize positions as constraints, because then they are just dynamics at another (slower) scale but I don' think this is what JDP has in mind.

Re: CLA, as our training should be representative of how you play the game and “relationism” demands this is how you play, what constraints/affordances/opportunities are we adding to our training to be able to play this way? Ben Bartlett Mark O'Sullivan PhD
