I am building a curated site of great edtech tools, games, and toys I have surfaced 186 high quality products and now need to label them and write short summaries about them. Looking for collaborators! LMK if you're down

We should have 10x higher expectations of what kids are capable of Desmond and I are building an education company that shares this philosophy, and we are excited to increasingly share our progress with you all

Euclidea.xyz is the best way to teach kids Geometry proofs You learn math the way that Da Vinci learned math; intuitively instead of analytically. You learn geometry by working with shapes instead of crunching numbers

Kids on Recess successfully complete difficult challenges more often than easy ones To rephrase Papert: The problem with school is not that it's too hard, but that it's too easy & too boring

I'm reorienting our entire company and product behind one metric: - Challenges Completed Revenue doesn't matter, time on site doesn't matter What matters is that kids who join Recess go on to do extraordinary things

Forbes 30u30 recognition is fun But what really matters is delivering an awesome product to kids and parents. As we continue to do better by families, more press will come. It’s time to build.

one hard part of education innovation is that radical people change things but parents rightfully don't want a radical education

this but for homeschoolers you don't need to go sell to big schools who take forever to buy and force you to make your product stupider

don't give your child the greatest tool humanity ever invented don't give your child the technology that powers the whole world don't give your child access to the highest value skills they could learn

My goal and our company’s goal is to apply learning science to everything, not just core academics Initially fact, we’ll always be more focused on coding, 3d modeling, electrical engineering…etc than we are on core academics But, our core academics will bang as well

To build a great education product for kids you need to work on two things: 1. Influence & motivation (what do kids want to be doing?) 2. Effective instruction No one ever focuses on #1, but it’s more important. If kids want it bad enough, they’ll learn despite bad materials

shocking how much parents helping their kids enjoy reading affects every other educational outcome if you just like hang out with your kids and read harry potter and other books they like, you'll help them build a reading habit and then they will get very far

a kid on Recess just launched a site that livestreams animals from around the world In his words: "I love watching animals in their day-to-day activities playing, eating and sleeping. I designed the app for myself and thought others might enjoy it too" anikams.com

My favorite education quote: "The role of the teacher is to create the conditions for invention rather than provide ready-made knowledge." - Seymour Papert

We are teaching children how to gamble Starting in January they'll learn probability, game theory, expected value...etc and poker-specific topics (pre-flop charts, position relevance...etc)
