Principals often have only one or two years to “prove themselves” and that’s a lot of pressure. The key is to focus on the main things first. And the main things are building trust, respect, and positive relationships with your staff.

I wonder if the same people who worry if teachers are working their full hours, are also worried when they work 60 or 70 hours or more a week? Teachers, don't try to live up to unrealistic expectations, take care of yourself, and then do your best!

#LMTALKCLIMATE A1 - School climate is about improving students' sense of achievement and well-being.

#LMTalkClimate Q2 - For my practicum I've created an SIP which I'm beginning to work towards. Three components. 1. Instruction 2. School climate 3. Parent engagement.

#LMTalkClimate Q3 It includes making sure staff is well (mentally, emotionally, and physically). And feel supported in the tasks assigned to them. And feel that everyone else has the same goals as they do.

#LMTalkClimate Q4 - making time for team marking, team planning. I think release time can be really helpful towards starting collaboration if it doesn't already exist.

#LMTalkClimate Q7 - Silence, when others need us to speak up, is not acceptable. Leadership includes being a voice for the silenced and challenged students and teachers.

#LMTalkClimate Q8 - stronger relationship with staff with the intention of building collective efficacy among staff and students.

Teachers, Don’t be discouraged if you do things differently than others. It’s ok to learn from others but don’t think you’re wrong if you do it differently. Everyone has their own talents & passions. Just bring your best self. Just Do You. Thats what your students need.

Remember, if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals.

Over 90% of Finnish teachers remain in education for entirety of career. We don’t have 90% make it through one year. They also teach 50% less hours with remainder for planning, multiple recesses, autonomy at school level, limited teacher eval's & are treated like professionals!
