Blocked boot at seeding time showing now how effective crop competition can be on ryegrass. I am a fan of the more competitive barley varieties for this reason.

A gut wrenching day for the generational farming families east of Minyip today. We are the pawns in global politics who are having their soul given away for a pittance. The economic claims are fundamentally flawed as the economic modelling has simply not been done.

The real ground zero impacts of the Trump / Albo meeting in the Whitehouse. Greenland rejected the US, war torn Ukraine said fuck off and Albo has happily sold our soul for a measly 2.75% in royalties to the people who own the resource. And will ruin our land to cap it off

If you watch anything today, make it this. Here's the view from farmers on the ground in the path of the rare earth mineral sand mines at the centre of #Australia and the #UnitedState's $8b deal Ryan Milgate #vicfarmers

Farming is full of things not going quite the way you would expect them to. Quick check of the hay after yesterday’s wind = raked on the left vs not raked on the right. Raked hasn’t moved at all 🤷‍♀️ we were lucky. Yesterday not a good day for lots of hay crops sadly 👎

You’ve heard the upside to the critical mineral mines, but what does that mean for farmers stuck in the middle of these multi-billion dollar projects. Our Grains Pres Ryan Milgate spoke to Karl Stefanovic from The Today Show👇

Well, we got one day of harvest in before it rained again last night 🙄 Has been a challenging hay season & start to harvest in the Mallee. Good luck to everyone! Hopefully your crops are as good as you are expecting or maybe even a little better 🌾 #harvest25

Lentils going into the silo- just pondering how long they will stay there 🤔 Is $600/ton our new norm? Still good $GM. Time will tell I guess. Despite pricing they will remain our legume of choice for many reasons. We know we need their legacy in our rotation🌱

Out of interest - Asked chatGPT for the farm gate lentil price 2015-25. Little tricky given prices fluctuate so depends when you sell but averaging the ranges out = approx $690/t avg over last 10yrs. So $600 not too bad historically!

Every year I say I will do better but here we are again 🙈 please tell me I’m not the only one who lets it get to this stage because they find this system so frustrating?

Col McMaster reminds us about the importance of getting the first summer weed spray done early – delays later on have less impact on next winter crop yields and profit. (Image GRDC) Read more to see why: buff.ly/Z1Q3Ft5

We have a mystery wild oat sample to test for herbicide resistance. It arrived in a black post bag. The tracking Nr & barcode didn’t work. I called Australia Post & the only details they had was that it was sent on 27 Nov from Sydney. If the sender is on X can they contact me.

Thankyou to WeedSmart & Grassroots Agronomy for including me. We need to be clever to stay ahead of weeds and resistance and keep our key herbicides working effectively. I took home some good points from the other presenters, great to have access to this info!

Racing the header to grab some rye for a resistance test. Interesting how many green heads I saw given its mid Dec in the Mallee! Has been a fair number of late germinations by the looks. Also interesting how much you can fit in your hat!

Harvest 25 ✅ it’s a lot about the kg/mm result but also a bit about pdk dinners, header naps (for some of us), sunsets & teamwork. One for the memory bank this year with a result you dream of when sitting on the seeder in autumn. Good luck to those still on headers 🌾
