A national #biosecurity initiative announced by GRDC Chair John Woods at the #GRDCUpdates in Perth today is set to transform the effectiveness and responsiveness of Australia’s grains biosecurity system: bit.ly/3wDMZoH @nswdpi DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock PIRSA DEECA Victoria Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Queensland
Growers across the southern region are encouraged to eliminate volunteer canola, which is currently widespread, to reduce the risk green peach aphid & turnip yellows virus. 👉 bit.ly/43gmYbj AgCommunicators DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock Macquarie University Agriculture Victoria Marcroft Grains Pathology
Reports of aphid infestations have been common. Early virus infections may be responsible for some of the discolouration & mottling symptoms seen in canola & pulse crops. FREE testing for virus diseases is available. Joop van Leur @NSWDPI_AGRONOMY GRDC North
🪲GPA-known as vectors of TuYV, have been abundant this season.🧐Inspect your crops for GPA and look for virus symptoms. We can assist with both aphid ID and plant testing services to confirm TuYV presence. Joop van Leur @NSWDPI_AGRONOMY GRDC North GRDC
From 2nd April to 29th May - No green peach aphid detected at any of our monitoring sites. Plenty of other species caught around Northam and Esperance, and cabbage aphid moving out of dual-purpose canola around Kendenup. No TuYV detected yet. GRDC West DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock The UWA Institute of Agriculture
UPDATE - TuYV detected in cabbage aphid at 5 sites on the south-coast. Without GPA the risk is still low but virus is present. Dual-purpose or volunteer canola, and wild radish are likely sources. Keep an eye out for GPA in young spring canola DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock GRDC West GRDC
⚠️Alert for NSW canola growers⚠️ An outbreak of green peach aphid has been reported with an increase risk of turnip yellows virus. Monitor aphid activity, esp. along field edges & correctly ID green peach aphids before spraying. 👉 bit.ly/3yXF2fv Cesar Australia
APHID TRAPPING UPDATE 10th JULY - Green peach aphid and/or turnip yellows virus detected at various locations - when both GPA and TuYV is present = disease risk is considered elevated in pre-flowering canola. More info: shorturl.at/OfAWU GRDC GRDC West DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock
We have detected high levels of turnip yellows virus in diseased canola crops in the Geraldton region. Green peach aphid, the vector, was first found in early July and conditions have proven conducive forTuYV spread. Images - Peter Norris. DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock GRDC West GRDC
Turnip yellows virus infection levels in 23 canola crops. Testing done at ~early flowering (between 9th July to 23rd August) because TuYV can have significant seed yield and quality impact when transmission occurs prior to flowering DPIRD Broadacre - WA Grains & Livestock GRDC West #NationalVirusProject
