Lighting public buildings in pink does absolutely nothing to address the scourge of #MaleViolence that happens every day in this country and that took the lives of those three girls this week. Instead we are watching even more Male Violence erupting across the UK. Abhorrent.

I’m with a cohort of our young people this morning. We’re trying to find an hour of joy in the shadow of the weekend’s events. The biggest thing coming from our conversations: ‘I’m scared.’ Regardless of their faith or skin colour, our working-class young people are terrified.

Interesting to see Upper/Middle Class people taking absolutely zero responsibility for the Far-Right Riots, in the same way that they don't take any responsibility for their weekend drug habits resulting in vulnerable young people being killed on our streets. You are part of it.

Arresting, fast track processing and jailing perpetrators of the Far-Right Riots offers nothing but a sticking plaster over a maggot-infested gaping wound. It might put would-be rioters off of immediate violence, but it won’t solve the Fascism that has a firm grip on the UK.

These riots started in Parliament. Rioters chant “stop the boats” and “we want our country back” - using language from politicians across the political spectrum. It’s not enough to call out violence, politicians need to stop normalising hate. In policy and practice.

Can we have a serious discussion about the ‘business as usual’ narrative coming from decision-makers and leaders? All this week, I’ve read so much urging us to ‘try to go about our daily lives’ or ‘keep calm and carry on’. 🧵 1/6

But what happens after that? What happens to the three young people apart from incarceration? How do we stop the spread and rise of fascism? Punitive measures won't solve this.

Probably THE most important thread I’ve read in terms of how we must respond as communities, as leaders, and as white folks. Bookmark it. Print it off. Pin it on your wall. Refer back to it. Often.
