In 1885, pharmacist Charles Alderton experimented by mixing fruit flavors together at The Old Corner Drug Store. The concoction created would become the formula for Dr Pepper. It became a favorite & soon people across town ordered the drink originally known as a Waco. #tbt

When Baylor started participating in sports it did not have a mascot! By the fall of 1914, students began to call for a mascot, & it was proposed that a contest be held to determine what it should be. The "Bear" came in 1st place & the "Baylor Buffalo" in 2nd! #FunFactFriday

In 1914, the Hippodrome Theatre opened to the public. Wacoans paid 10 cents to view the grand opening, which featured a live seal act, magic show, and 5-piece orchestra. As popularity of moving pictures grew, the Hippodrome began to replace live acts with silent films. #tbt

Baylor Line began in 1970 as a spirit org for 1st-year male students. A year later, the Baylor Sideline was created as an org for women. Members wore special shirts & cheered from a special section in the stands. In the 90s, students began running across the field. #FunFactFriday

The original dam for Lake Waco was built in 1929 to control flooding of the Bosque River and to provide the city with a reliable water source. In '61, a modern earthen dam replaced the original, increasing the surface area of the lake from approx 2700 acres to 19400 acres. #tbt
