Recently, there has been some chatter on social media about our activities in the county as we have been attempting to arrest a Hilyerd Williams. He was wanted for Aggravated Assault. Williams was arrested last night, without incident.

We have received several reports that the administrative lines coming into the Sheriff's Office are DOWN. This seems to be an issue with AT&T, as most other carriers are getting through. We are working to rectify this issue as soon as possible. 911 lines are still functional.

Tomorrow (Thursday, July 27) at 3:30 P.M., we will be holding a press conference at the Sheriff's Office in reference to a June 21, 1979, case where a deceased female was found on Hwy 290 near FM 696. The female was unable to be identified at the time. Media is welcome tomorrow

Mutiple agencies working a grass fire at WB Hwy 71 near Harmon rd and the State Park. Evacuation notices are being sent out. Current evacuations Hwy 71- Harmon to Pine Hill Loop.

From Bastrop OEM: Fire Update 9:45 A.M. 08/03/2023 Fire ops continue today. The est. size of the fire remains at 117 acres. Containment remains at an estimated 75%. Progression has stopped. There are no evacuation orders. Hwy 71 remains open. Please avoid the area if possible.

The bodies of 2 males, a female, and a dog were recovered today from a cistern on private property north of Elgin. We will hold a news conference at 9AM (tentatively) at the Sheriff's Office (200 Jackson St), with the anticipation that the next-of-kin will be notified before 9AM
