This is great advice! I've found when I schedule rest days in my calendar it can reduce the guilt of not working b/c I'm following my plan for the week. One of the best things I did for my mental health during grad school was set aside 1 day a week as a rest day, every week.

Folks, please remember that your students and trainees are whole entire people dealing with whole entire problems that are on par with or exceeding the ones we as faculty and supervisors are dealing with ourselves

One of you brilliant people recently had a study about the ineffectiveness of mandatory counseling for MOUD, I remember the limitation being that the counseling as-is is inherently not-evidence based. Anyone remember? NEED IT.

I grow tired of hearing about “grit” and “resilience.” Terms that have been co-opted by institutions looking to transform systemic failures into individual problems.

Does anyone have information about federal guidelines requiring urine drug screens in patients receiving any controlled substances (not just MOUD)? I've been hearing a lot of mixed information from physicians & patient experiences so I'm curious about what is actually required.

I know that there are a number of resources for F31 submissions, but does anyone know of similar resources for K mechanisms? Examples, advice, etc. thank you!!

When you’re a trainee on long calls—sleep deprived, rushing around, exhausted—patients may become the enemy... Each patient need representing a barrier to sleep and health. This isn’t a model that builds empathy. It smashes it to the ground.

CW: suicide Match day is on Friday. Every year I remember a classmate who died soon after not matching. Your life is worth so much more than medicine. Please: reach out to your colleagues. Check on them frequently. Medicine is not your life. Mentors, check in w mentees.

After seeing comments from a physician (who clearly lacks empathy) regarding the tragic loss of a resident who took their own life, I’m here to remind our profession that we absolutely do not and should not continue to pass down the emotional trauma we experienced (1/6)

Reposting since my institution suggests "For much more clarity it would be best to contact a Professional Tax Preparer, Accountant, or the Internal Revenue Service". 😑 How are other #postdocs reporting F32 income on their taxes?

Folks who have completed or are currently doing their PhD: If you were to have received a small welcome packet at your desk on Day 1 of your PhD, what would you want it to include? Some ideas: Post-its, a fun pen, highlighters, stapler, candy. What else?

Now, the new 2024 CDC guidelines advise clinicians to counsel patients on pain management during IUD insertions. It's rewarding to have played a part in this progress! Grateful to see the recognition this issue deserves and excited to continue advocating for women's health!

Does anyone have lab policy for independent projects for undergraduates/volunteer RAs that they can share? I am trying to form a well-articulated policy for my lab and would love something to build off of.
