#TheFantasticFour - 3/5 Solid live-action adventure that sets up a grand intro for supervillain Galactus. The premise though silly & surreal, is interesting enough to hold our attention. Particularly, final battle is an exhilarating stuff on big screens. Verdict: Worth a watch.

#Maareesan - 2.75/5 Fairly intriguing, slow-burn suspense drama that has its moments. But loses fizz & does get predictable after a point with logic loopholes and tepid investigation portion, still the powerhouse performances from lead duo saves the show. Verdict: Above-average.

#ThalaivanThalaivii - 2.25/5 Loud rural family drama that’s more annoying than entertaining. Very few scenes click, while chaotic & ultra-dramatic sequences occupy most of runtime. Lack of empathy/emotional connect with leadpair is the main drawback. Verdict: Didn’t work for me.

#HouseMates - 2.75/5 A fresh take on horror-fantasy genre in tamil cinema. Interesting concept & narration keep us invested for most parts. Despite few glitches and some overstretched scenes, a decent debut directorial attempt from Dir. Rajavel. Verdict: Harmless one-time watch.

#MahavatarNarsimha: Stands true to its mythology genre, unlike fake ‘divine blockbuster Kannappa’. Despite few rough patches, the animation work is quite convincing for Indian standards. The spiritual moments in 2nd half are sure to cater target audience. Verdict: Watchable.

#Surrender - 2.5/5 Fairly intriguing crime drama sans commercial compromises (except unwanted Munishkanth track). Focussed narration is a plus, while for such a raw premise, infusing smart ideas in writing rather than familiar tropes, could have made it better. Verdict: Average.

#Trending - 2.75/5 Minimalistic techno-thriller with a pertinent premise where the emotional play keep us hooked for most parts. On flipside, drags a bit in later half & some plotpoints seem unconvincing. Flaws aside, a sincere debut directorial attempt. Verdict: Above-average.
