College admission essay content has a stronger correlation with household income (R2 = 16%) than SAT scores. This explains how removing standardized tests can increase inequality. Based on 240,000 admission essays to the University of California. science.org/doi/full/10.11…

1. Where do superstar scientists come from? Other superstar scientists. Even when you control for everything resume-wise, protégés of soon-to-be-famous scientific mentors (orange) had way more future research impact than their IQ-matched peers (blue)

I am the only member of my family to finish college, and this paper really resonates with me. Well the figure summaries really resonate with me. Gotta find time to sit down with it and go through the details

Don’t have a repeat of same vote splitting that allowed her to be elected with 37.1% to begin with. (Give us ranked choice voting!). I really wish I’d started recording a couple/few minutes sooner. Wild how willing she is to argue so endlessly when she’s objectively wrong. 7/

It doesn't fit the narrative of there being so much discrimination by voters? This is bad news for democracy, because this assumed discrimination is what is hurting woman politicians and politicians of colour, even when voters aren't that old-fashioned anymore.

"Everything is political" is a classic deepity. On one reading, it's true but trivial. On another, it's interesting but obviously false. These different interpretations create a misleading sense of profundity. It's Deepak Chopra but for people with PhDs in the humanities.

Either you saw zero theory of change behind the DEI movement, or you have to see that the DEI movement is succeeding. In neither case is surprise a legitimate response...if you are surprised, it means that you didn't take DEI efforts seriously.

As an actual Marxist, the most frustrating element of Trump's new rhetoric is that he incessantly uses the term to label weak-sauce spineless liberal positions.
