"Perhaps most damaging of all, however, is the prospect that a lawyer from outside the jurisdiction might witness the extent to which Hong Kong’s legal system has been debased — and tell the truth about it."

Over 20 pro-democracy legislators applied for judicial review of this act that Richburg sees fit to joke about. Most of these ex-legislators are now in jail or in exile. Yes I get that wearing masks is a nuisance but using the mask ban to joke about it is just tone deaf.

47 defendants in the biggest #NSL case to date. 83% of those on bail chose to contest the charge, whereas only 17% of those in detention did so. Tell us again how the presumption against bail does not impinge on the right to a fair trial.

1/ Today, a bipartisan group of US lawmakers introduced a bill to sanction 49 Hong Kong judges, prosecutors & gov't officials. They range from appeals judges to low-level prosecutors. If passed, it would make clear that ANYONE participating in persecution can be held accountable.
