šŸ’Æ šŸ”Š Maturing as a filmmaker is realizing that visuals and sound are equally important and should be treated as such if you want truly ā€œproā€ production quality.

ā€œOblivionā€ was one of my favorite projects to be involved with. I eventually started collecting the soundtracks for films I’ve been a part of, and I just dug this one out of the collection to hear again. Still one of my absolute favorite modern sci fi scores.

A limited MONDO poster from a Superman film I worked on many years ago called ā€œMan of Steelā€. Even a decade later, this project is still really special to me for so many reasons. Zack Snyder Henry Cavill's Corner Superman SoundWorks Collection

Another horrifically unsurprising example of why you should read the boring, long-winded, obscurely worded Terms of Service for the tools you use.

This is the first recorder I ever owned. Since I bought it in 2009, it’s been used on more major studio films and TV shows than I can count. It’s traveled across the US for 15 years. And it’s still going strong. Sometimes, the best gear…is simply the gear you have with you.

The #1 tip for anyone editing sound (ESPECIALLY for video editors): It’s all about layers. What I do: break down the sound I’m trying to make into pieces. Find or record the best version of each of those pieces. Blend them together. Repeat. šŸ”Š

šŸŽ„ How to make a small fortune in the film industry: šŸ’µ Start with a large fortune. Preferably your parents’, who work in finance or the food industry. šŸ‘„ Have friends who already work in film at major production companies. šŸ”Ŗ Be willing to do anything for success.

That’s correct. Across the board, major features to indie shorts. I’ve been on big projects where the afterparties cost more than the entire audio budget. There is no safe haven šŸ˜‚

The number one way to make content stand out from the noise…is to make it SOUND professional. Audio is the most important (and least understood) part of video.
