The Pediatric Health Safe Storage Act, #HB1, would require guns that can be accessed by minors be stored securely. Passing this law would create a culture and standard of what responsible gun ownership means around kids. This should not be remotely controversial or partisan.

A reminder that the GA GOP has ALREADY gerrymandered our maps, not just for our congressional seats but in the state legislature. Before the last round of redistricting, the split in Congress was 8R/6D. Now, despite GA’s electorate shifting Dem in the last decade, it is 9R/5D.

In Georgia the GOP also holds the governorship and majorities in the state house and state senate. There is no more potent example of why it’s crucial for us to protect and flip swing legislative seats, breaking that trifecta before they have another go at redistricting in 2030.

At the Capitol, many talk a big game about protecting and supporting law enforcement, particularly when it comes to school safety. When we return next session, let’s finally listen to what they’re asking for so that they can do their jobs and keep our kids safer. #HB1

It seems like this issue may have momentum. In addition to Dr. Michelle Au, Republican lawmakers Rep. Mark Newton and Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick (also physicians) have introduced legislation supporting safe storage. Ds and Rs disagree on the approach, but agree it’s effective.
