Yesterday's May Day march on #UAlberta campus was a great celebration of the workers who make the university work! Workers have made only made gains over the years by standing in solidarity with one another to win what they deserve, and that's how we'll continue to win!

The takeaway here should not be that students are lazy. 18 year olds aren’t the problem. The problem is that universities have failed to make a persuasive case to their “customers” that they are educational institutions rather than companies that dispense “I’m employable” stamps.

The University of Alberta has slashed funding to their affiliated daycares despite the funding only making up .0154% of its operating budget. These facilities are vital to the community and lives will be permanently changed by this callous decision. thegatewayonline.ca/2025/05/u-of-a…

1/ The University of Alberta is cutting ALL funding to its university-affiliated daycares effective Jan 2026. That funding? Just $298,600 — or 0.0154% of its operating budget. A rounding error to the university. A lifeline to student parents.

Catching your garden variety plagiarism used to be the worst part of my job. Catching AI is without a doubt much, much more soul destroying.

On May 7, the Association of Academic Staff at the University of Alberta (AASUA) filed an unfair labour practice complaint against the U of A. The complaint alleges that the university did not act in good faith during informal mediation. buff.ly/ttJ3cQO

The University of Alberta cut ALL funding to the six affiliated child care centres that serve it. After only two weeks of this becoming public, they are now holding a "Day of Parents" event to celebrate their expanded support for parents across campus. Unbelievable.

so cool how our schools quietly partnered with AI companies and concertedly integrated it into student software and infrastructure all under the refrain of “it’s already here” and all this bullshit handwringing that foisted so much work on faculty and now education is just cooked

Dr. Marianne Larsen, Professor Emeritus at Western University, urges the community to keep examining Navitas. She points to recent Glassdoor reviews where staff say the company prioritizes profit—“maximizing every cent” from students. The concerns are still real. #NoToNavitas #onpse
