Pragmatism > theoretical purity Ecosystem > technical sophistication Scalability > perf gains I keep seeing this be the case over and over (as measured by success in the real world). New solutions that prioritise the RHS seem to struggle.

If `forwardRef` is being removed in React 19, can we also make the `ref` prop accept an array of refs? Every component library needs to merge an internal ref with a user's externally passed one, which currently requires a utility.

Very excited about CSS anchor positioning shipping in Chrome: groups.google.com/a/chromium.org… Overlay positioning is some of the most complicated code in React Aria, and I can't wait to remove it. The spec looks remarkably full featured and customizable! drafts.csswg.org/css-anchor-pos…

Introducing Base UI 🚀 ✔️ 25 accessible UI components ✔️ Unstyled. Compatible with any styling engine. ✔️ Fully composable with an open API I'll highlight some of my favourite features in the thread 🧵⬇️

One of the most impactful projects a design engineer can work on today 👇 Base UI is slated to become the new default component library for React, and I can't recommend enough working with Colm Tuite and the team.

An interesting mental model for CPU throttling: you “time travel” back to an era of performance Relative to 2024 (M4 Pro): 4× = mid ‘10s 6× = early ‘10s 20× = mid ‘00s ChatGPT claims 95% of users have >2015 perf. 20× is still nice for testing extremes though

The next release of Base UI should reach feature parity with Radix, adding the three remaining “Menus”: • Menubar • Navigation Menu • Context Menu After this, we’re tackling Combobox and many more critical components

Artificial superintelligence will have been achieved only if it can write a body scroll lock solution for iOS from scratch that doesn't cause any negative side effects As far as I’m aware it remains unsolved to this day and could be considered a Millennium Prize problem
