Today we will be tweeting from our conference on career progression at UCL. Sharon Betts is launching the event with the results of a survey we did to discover what support women are getting for promotion and progression in their workplace.

Our first speaker Fiona Strawbridge gives her reflections of being a "Girl Boss" at the IOE. She advises that if you feel like an imposter, know that you aren't alone. Seize opportunities and connect beyond your team.

UCL's Assistant Director Compliance and Performance Emma Shirbon started her career in major construction projects including the redevelopment of St Pancras Station. She says things sometimes happen slowly at UCL, but "don't give up".

Julie Smith, director of operations, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities described her career progression after a 10-year career break to have a family. She advises making your own luck and being yourself. "Any relationships will not be sustainable if you can't be yourself."

In a previous role at the alternative education provider Pearson, Kae Ohene-Yeboah, head of EDI at UCL, noticed that students were struggling, so developed a student support service which is now up and running. "When you do things you care about you are more likely to shine."
