It is moving day. ASIM 🦋 @asim.dk is going back to it's original location on the International Space Station's Columbus module. January 2022, ASIM 🦋 @asim.dk was temporarily moved out the way from the SDX to SDN location because of a new expirement, which has now completed.

⚡️ Back to its roots. The 'space storm hunter' ASIM moved to its original, preferred position on European Space Agency's Columbus module today. 👀 The relocation will give the ASIM 🦋 @asim.dk a wider field of view to monitor high energy events in Earth’s upper atmosphere. Its science could

Thunderstorm observations from International Space Station provide better data than satellites at higher orbits. Monitoring thunderstorms helps scientists evaluate their role in atmospheric dynamics and climate change. doi.org/10.1038/s41526…

Starliners approach to International Space Station provided a great photo opportunity for the European Space Agency #Columbus module with STP-H7 and ASIM 🦋 @asim.dk on the exposed platform. ASIM 🦋 @asim.dk has been observing electromagnetic discharges in the upper atmosphere since Apr. 2018 and is still going 💪

I am so lucky to have captured such a picture of Gigantic Jets Lightning over Himalayan Mountains. And it has now been published at #APOD of June 18. I took them on the early morning of June 10, 2024.

Super lucky a few weeks ago when shooting a timelapse of a lightning storm off the coast of South Africa. One of the frames in the timelapse had a red sprite. A rare event. My knowledge is pretty much just from Wikipedia but I want to know more. 50mm lens, f1.2, 1/5s, ISO 3200
