Ethereum will undergo one of its largest transformations this month. ELI5: What is the Merge? How does it affect me? How do I trade it? 🧵

✅Long ETH and short ETC. ETC usually rallies before ETH forks and plummets after ✅Long Lido ($LDO), Rocket Pool ($RPL), Ankr ($ANKR), Stakewise ($SWISE) which have approximately doubled from their year-to-date lows. Below is a split of the largest players

History would suggest $ETH PoW forks are best sold. ETHW IOUs are now $30-33 (-67% from 1 month ago). I wouldn't sell the forks -- in case it doesn't happen -- and your $ETH is locked into the contract. So if you're fast, think of this as a free 1.7% dividend on your $ETH.

Wallet-to-wallet messaging is the next necessary step for the Web3 revolution. Why's this the hottest space? Let's dive in 👇

Ethereum is the most active but transactions are expensive and slow. How would we get around this? EVM wallets offer the same 0x... addresses so you can prove your identity. Protocols like Aurora also provide EVM-compatability to use cheaper blockchains like NEAR Protocol

W2W Messaging is key to coordination and every social network and messaging app will get a Web3 variant. Like Web2, there will be a few winners in the space. And they will have the right to win for the next stage, Web3 social media.

So we're meant to believe the Bahamas regulator asked for $600m for safekeeping, and FTX worked with them. Yet... 1) FTX legal said that they're stopping the "unauthorized transactions" 2) SBF on Vox's screenshots said that they were hacked 👇👇👇

I’m a fan of Binance but auditors would never ask you to move $2bn They will be physically present and ask you to *sign a message* using the private key of addresses holding the funds. There is no requirement to move funds at all.

Su-Kyle saying they’re arb traders in a black-swan event, hunted by FTX, is the same as SBF saying there was a bank run. Lest we forget, here’s a recap of what 3AC did 👇🏼

🔫 They lied about not taking external money and pounded their chest on how successful they are 🔫They funneled $32m in stablecoins to an affiliated shell company 🔫They bought a 171ft, $150m yatch with other people’s money

And now the sociopaths think they can talk their way out of it, using ring phrases like “our position was hunted”. Once corporate creditors have extracted value, personal lawsuits against Su-Kyle will begin. They won’t easily get away with this.

Why are Binance withdrawals taking >1 hour? This is *very normal* when we see an exodus of funds and actually shows they could have proper controls in place. I don’t know if Binance FUD is legit but this is how exchange withdrawals work 👇🏼

Thus, delays with Binance withdrawals doesn't necessarily mean they're insolvent. It's possible they just can't keep up with the spike in demand.

We don't know how this'll play out, but self-custodying is always the safest solution. My advice is -- don't rely on bleeding edge tech products, but use the time-tested hardware wallets that Trezor and Ledger have offered for years.
