Nice couple of days away Portland Bird Observatory last week, nightingale was new for me which doesn’t happen often and saw my first Bee-eater, fantastic place and team will definitely be returning 😊

A few of the ringing highlights from last weekend

Quick session at Littleton brick pits resulted in 10 blackcap, 2 chiff, 1 reed warbler, 1 cettis and a robin. All ringed under licence 😊

A day of variety at Littleton- chiffs a plenty, firecrest, grey wagtail, 2 woodpeckers, cettis, long tailed, blue and great tit, gold crest, robin, wren, blackbird, blackcaps, good start to my birthday weekend 😀

Great morning at Littleton, 45 birds including the first tawny for the site 10 redwing,Chiffs , blue tit, robin, wren, gold crest our 3rd firecrest of the autumn and another new Cettis. All ringed under licence .

Late afternoon action at Catcott, M. Harrier puts up ducks,Peregrine arrives knocks a Teal? down. Dispute between Harrier and Peregrine, meanwhile a Buzzard arrives from nowhere and carries off the Teal. Rubbish photos but an interesting outcome.

Unhappy end to a rare visitor to Catcott this afternoon snAvocet probably making for Steart was intercepted by 2 Peregines and a Marsh Harrier put up brave attempt to escape but knocked down by a Peregrine but dropped on by the Harrier. Pic. is of its last few seconds

Great spring morning at Littleton, nice selection including tree pipit, reed warbler, blackcap, willow warbler, chiffchaff and the usual local species.

Conditions looked promising this morning at Littleton brick pits but turned out to be quiet, highlight of the day was the first sedge warbler and a French 🇫🇷 ringed blackcap so was worth getting up for, maybe next time 😊 no pictures taken

A Ham Wall ,Glossy Ibis from last Monday, throwing what I have reliably been told, is a Smooth Newt down the hatch!

Day 1 Portland Bird Observatory yesterday, off to a quiet start but some nice migrants throughout the day, apart from the pigeon which is a local. Whinchat , spotted flycatcher, redstart along with a couple of willow warblers and chiffchaff 😊

Day 2 Portland Bird Observatory another quiet day with 4 spotted fly catchers the highlight along with 2 lesser whitethroats, 1 returning from last year and a swallow. Halo run the sun was cool.
