So I've been asked what my advice would be to civilian resistors in Ukriane, especially Kyiv. Someone with no military training but wanting to resist. Here are a few things #Kyiv #UkraineUnderAttack :

In solar, we can’t get the inverters, optimizers, & cell cards to run new solar systems bc foreign suppliers keep stopping production. Every solar client (Rep & Dem) wants to buy all American but we don’t make these things here. Plz attach strings to make ppl move prod to the US

2) Fossil fuel flows are MUCH bigger (in $$$ / volume / weight). Example: Each Ford F150 needs about 300 barrels (40 tonnes) of oil over its lifetime. Putin sells it to you now for >$30k. Raw battery cell material for an electric Ford F150 Lightning is 0.5 tonnes costing <$1k!

AukeHoekstra (@aukehoekstra) 's Twitter Profile Photo

3) Raw materials for renewable energy are not burned and can be recycled. So we can take an old Ford F150 Lightning and with current tech reuse ~95% of the battery. Now we only need to import 2.5 kg / 5.5 pounds of new battery material, costing just 50 dollar per giant car.

4) With fossil fuels, substitution is hard. Once you have something that runs on a fossil fuel, it needs (lots of) that fossil fuel. With renewable raw materials the substitutes are endless. E.g. you can make batteries with sodium instead of lithium and iron instead of nickel.

Here we go again -- another Antarctic heatwave may be coming soon. In the 10-day forecast, areas near the South Pole may reach more than 30C (54F) above average. The heat will also be impacting West Antarctica and the Thwaites glacier. Stay tuned.
