Women/femmes are missing, being trafficked, losing their lives to intimate partner violence/honor killings, combatting rape culture, and fighting for full bodily autonomy while striving for equity, but they’re budgeting all that bandwidth toward a trans woman winning a swim-off?

I’ve been targeted like Jada, have exercised poor judgement like Chris, and have reacted like Will. That duality has trained me to bypass knee-jerk reactions to other people’s miscalculations, reflect on my own growth & transformation, and keep working toward collective healing.

We often mistake the carceral appetite for humiliation, punishment, and revenge as “accountability.” Shame is not an effective tool of transformation. Transformative Justice seeks to break the cycle of violence without creating more harm. That’s where our collective healing lies.

Many struggle to define accountability, as it’s a byproduct of justice. When you’ve known nothing but injustice your entire life—the concept seems elusive. Transformative/Healing frameworks for conflict resolution are about restoring lives and reforming systems simultaneously.

At the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. As a story-teller who employs media to move messaging on unity, equity, transformation and healing—the aforementioned are crucial. Inclusive content has the power to educate and shift culture in ways that affirm trans and queer identities.☀️

This Mental Health Awareness Month, as we become more intentional about showing up for ourselves, we must also show up for communities our identities & experiences may not intersect with. This month, and each after—let’s afford ourselves the gift of collective healing. #RoeVsWade
