19/07/25 - S Gregory of Nyssa Gregory of Nyssa was born at Caesarea in what is now Turkey around the year 330. For Gregory, God is met not as an object to be understood, but as a mystery to be loved. He died in the year 394.

04/08/25 - S. John Vianney A Franciscan tertiary who reflected the spirituality of Francis, his compassion and understanding of human weakness often brought him to tears. He expressed a great love of God and for his people.

05/08/25 - S. Oswald Oswald was forced to leave home after his father's death and move to Iona where, he was baptised. Returning to Northumbria in 634, he defeated the British king. A man of humility and generosity, Oswald worked closely with his friend St Aidan.

06/08/25 - The Transfiguration Father in heaven,whose Son was wonderfully transfigured before chosen witnesses & spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem: give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross that in the world to come we may see him as he is.

08/08/25 - S Dominic Almighty God,whose servant Dominic grew in the knowledge of your truth & formed an order of preachers to proclaim the faith of Christ: by your grace give to all a love for your word & a longing to share the gospel,so that the whole world may come to know you

09/08/25 - S Teresa Benedicta of the Cross OCD In retaliation for being denounced by the bishops, the Nazis arrested all Dutch Jews who had become Christians. Sr Teresa Benedicta and her sister Rosa, died in a gas chamber in Auschwitz on August 9, 1942.

10/08/25 - Trinity VIII

14/08/25 - S Maximilian Kolbe Maximilian was arrested as an intellectual & taken to Auschwitz in 1941. There he secretly celebrated Mass. After an escape, a prisoner was chosen to die, Maximilian stepped forward in his place. Two weeks later he was injected with phenol and died.

15/08/25 - The Feast of the Assumption Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory.
