I love these kinds of flies. They seem to my untrained eye to be quintessentially Irish type patterns - stunningly beautiful, poetically impressionistic and, no doubt, lethally effective!

Anguis fragilis - eyeballed by a particularly ancient looking individual (apparently they can live up to 30 years in the wild) - there have been slow worms in my parents’ garden as long as I can remember, so there must be some old ones. #slowworm #reptile

I’m not sure there is anything more satisfying when it comes to frescoes than seeing them in situ and the context in which they were meant to be seen. (Or, at least, as close as we can get).
