1/3 A common misconception (in my view) that I often come across is that RCT type evidence is not possible for traditional medical systems like Ayurveda. While it is true that Ayurveda is unsuited for typical standardised medicine doses vs placebo RCT, that’s not the only way

2/3 Randomisation (R) can be at the level of treatment modality I.e. patient could be randomly assigned to Ayurveda treatment vs other treatment. Blinding is tougher since no placebo pill arm is possible, but that is not insurmountable via sham arms. Even surgical RCTs exist.

3/3 Control can be sham or other modality such as modern medicine. Doing such trials, rather than saying it can’t be done, is the best way forward. Modern medicine is not allopathy, a misused word, but rather just a system of evidence. All branches are welcome. Opinions welcome.
