Happy 90th birthday to one of NASA’s best, Charlie Duke! 🎉 Born #OnThisDay in 1935, Duke served as CAPCOM for Apollo 11 and later became the 10th, and youngest, person to walk on the Moon during Apollo 16.

Looks like all we need is a bucket lift to put a man on the Moon! 🌒 The museum is undergoing outdoor renovations. Our iconic dome is getting a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. In addition, the exterior walls are being resealed and painted a new gray color!

Today, we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy! ⚓️ The Navy proudly holds the distinction of producing more NASA astronauts than any other U.S. military branch.

OCT 14: #OnThisDay in 1947, Chuck Yeager became the first person to break the sound barrier, piloting the Bell X-1 aircraft. Yeager achieved a speed of Mach 1.06 at an altitude of 45,000 feet and later received the 1947 Collier Trophy in recognition of his accomplishment.

Our exterior updates are now complete! The concrete exterior has been resealed to protect against moisture. The dome has a fresh coat of white paint and has also been resealed. And the building’s color has been updated from tan to a lunar-inspired gray. Your thoughts?

OCT 29: #OnThisDay in 1998, astronaut and Ohio senator John Glenn lifted off on STS-95, making him the oldest person to orbit Earth at age 77. Glenn volunteered to experiment to discover the effects of space on the elderly.

The museum extends our condolences to Dr. Buzz Aldrin on the passing of his beloved wife, Anca. Our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.

OCT 31: #OnThisDay in 1930, astronaut Michael Collins was born in Rome, Italy. Chosen in NASA’s 3rd astronaut class in 1963, Collins served on both Gemini X and Apollo 11. Along with his career at NASA, Collins ended his military career as Major General in the USAF.

Astronaut Rick Hauck passed away yesterday at the age of 84. Best known for commanding STS-26, NASA’s first mission following the Challenger tragedy, Rick’s leadership and dedication were instrumental in restoring confidence in America’s space program. FREDRICK HAUCK 1941 — 2025
